Ask any HR department what their key objective is and they’ll tell you they want to be more strategic, become a true partner to the line, and deliver meaningful and measurable results to the business. And ask business leaders what they want from HR, and they’ll tell you the same thing!

Yet despite these shared goals, HR is often frustrated by their inability to influence the organisation’s strategic agenda and line managers are often frustrated by HR’s inability to deliver meaningful performance improvement to the business.

The lesson is clear - HR’s road to becoming a business driver does not rest in the policies which it designs and administers. Rather, the value of HR is in its ability to develop unique solutions aligned to specific business needs. For HR to provide real functional expertise that is both strategic and leading-edge, HR must develop its core skills.
